Heraklion, Crete
A 210 m2, detached modern and modern architecture house at Agios Ioannis (Saint John) neighbourhood, in the Heraklion suburb of Knossos, where the Minoan Palace, discovered by Prof. Evans, stands. The house has been designed as a modern conveniences’ town house albeit close to the countryside, with easy access to the sea front and the beaches.
It has been built utilising exceptionally high quality technics and building materials, over three floors (lower ground, ground and first floors), all airconditioned, each of 70 m2, interconnected by an internal staircase, but also by a private modern elevator for effortless access and convenience, even by retiree stage owners or visitors. However, the lower ground floor, has been designed as, a potentially, independent annex, easily separated from the upper floors, if the occupants so wished. All floors throughout have been tiled with modern ceramic tiles, the walls painted in neutral beige colours and the double glazed windows and balconies’ doors, have shatters and are insect screened.
The lower ground floor space is taking full advantage of the sloping terrain of the plot, which allows for the garden doors to open at the same level as the ground, offers a large living-kitchenette space, which could be utilised also as bedsitting space, but also a large bedroom, a large shower bathroom, ample storage space, leading to washing-machine room and the utilities base, where the modern oil central heating boiler is also located. The staircase and the lift, start from this floor and goes up to the other two levels.
The ground floor, also of 70 m2, is given to a large living, and dining area, superbly lit with recessed spot lighting, offers an open fire place and access to a large veranda, overlooking the garden and directly accessing the garden, offering space for a large dinner table for al fresco dining. This level is complimented by a large guest restroom and of course a fully equipped modern kitchen, with its own breakfast bar, with the dining table and the veranda dining both easily accessed from the kitchen itself.
The first floor, all in polished wood flooring is given to a convenient office / work space and three good size bedrooms, the family bathroom, with double sinks, modern bathtub and toilet, while the room presently dedicated as an office space, could be turned into an extra shower bathroom serving the other two bedrooms. All bedrooms have ample recessed wardrobes and good size verandas with views.
There is a substantial street-level own parking space, with access both to the ground floor and the lower ground floor, where is the garden, which could be much improved, easily.
